Why do we feel warm on a cloudy night?
Nowadays it is always clear sky whole day. ( including day and night ) . It is also chill or cold in the night. But during rainy season , we experiance warmness and my father always predicts whether it is going to rain or not depending on the degree of warmness !
But what is the reason for this?
During the day, Sun heats the Earth. At night, the heat radiates back into space. When it is cloudy, there is less heat coming during the day as clouds cover Sun.
If the sky is cloudy at nights too, then the radiated heat from Earth gets trapped in the ground level itself. Because of this trapped heat, we feel warmer during nights when it is cloudy. But if it is clear sky, then the radiated heat will get reflect back to space. Hence we feel cold at the night on a clear sky day.
When it is cloudy, there is always less heat but this heat is getting trapped because of clouds at the ground level and will reflect back during night, making us feeling warmer.
