Hailstorm ( ಆಲಿಕಲ್ಲು ಮಳೆ ) in north Karnataka

In today's newspaper , there was a report that hailstorm ( ಆಲಿಕಲ್ಲು ಮಳೆ  ) in north Karnataka. Report said that ice cubes which weighed upto 20 kg were got.
I got interested in the matter. I have seen the ice cubes of our refrigerator . I had a doubt how they can say that it had weighed 20 kg ?!
It is not the weight of only one ice cube. It is the collection of ice cubes.
When we apply pressure to ice, it melts. When we hold 2 ice cubes together tightly, both of them melt slightly then refreeze but this time together!
Same thing happened there too. But it is the work of Nature.
Just picturise it. The temperature is very low. Suddenly it starts to rain. Since temperature is low, rain drops get transformed into solid form i.e. ice.
Soon they start to fall down. In midway , they come close to each other and they again refreeze together , thus forming an ice cube weighing 20 kg !
