How is echo produced?

Echo is a pattern of sound. Sound is just the vibrations in the air. When a sound wave hits a wall, it bounces back. Sometimes, sound waves reflects.
An echo is the repetition of the sound. It is caused by the reflection of sound waves from a surface. But not all sounds get echoed.
To hear an echo, there must be atleast a distance of 17.2 m between the surface on which sound waves will bounce and the sound producing source.
People say " A duck's quack doesn't echo ". But it is a myth. A duck's echo gets echoed but it may be difficult to hear. A quack itself is a quiet and fading sound which produce faint echoes.
